¶ Intro
OpenVPN is a virtual private network (VPN) system that implements techniques to create secure point-to-point or site-to-site connections in routed or bridged configurations and remote access facilities. It implements both client and server applications.
Almost all our GigaDrive plans include a complimentary VPN service in order to be able to browse the web securely and anonymously by tunneling your internet traffic through your GigaDrive server.
¶ Installing OpenVPN Server
- Navigate to the Application Manager page and search for
openvpn. - Click icon to open the installation window and tap Install to start the installation process.
- Once the installation is complete, click the icon to open the Access Info page. Click Configuration link to toggle the panel.
- Download the OpenVPN Configuration file (OVPN).
¶ Configuring OpenVPN Client
¶ For Windows
- Download and install the appropriate version of OpenVPN GUI.
- Right click on the OpenVPN tray icon and click Import file.
- Select the downloaded ovpn file and click open. You will get the following confirmation message.
- To connect to your VPN, right click on the tray icon again and click Connect. Enter password when prompted.
- If your VPN connection is successful, the OpenVPN tray icon will turn green.
- To further confirm that you have succesfully connected to the VPN, you can verify your IP address
here. You should see your GigaDrive server’s IP address on this page.
¶ For Linux
- Open your terminal and run the following command to install openvpn client.
sudo apt install openvpn ca-certificates
- Navigate to the folder where you saved your ovpn file (Assuming that you saved it in ~/Documents).
cd ~/Documents
sudo mv gigauser.ovpn /etc/openvpn/
- Then run openvpn using the following command
sudo openvpn gigauser.ovpn
- It will show you the logs of the VPN connection. Wait for a few minutes for it to successtully connect. You can also run above command under screen or tmux.
- To stop the connection, Type CTRL + C.
- To further confirm that you have succesfully connected to the VPN, you can verify your IP address here. You should see your GigaDrive server’s IP address on this page.
¶ For Android
- Install OpenVPN Connect from google’s playstore.
- Once installed, transfer the ovpn file to your android device.
- Open OpenVPN Connect app. Tap Agree to the Data Collection Policy.
- Switch to the FILE tab and accept media access permission.
- Navigate to the path where you have extracted your ovpn files. In this case, it’ll be in
Download/GigaDrive VPN. Select your ovpn file and click Import.
- Enter your VPN password in the
Private Key Passwordfield. Then tap ADD at the top right corner.
- Tap your newly created profile to initiate the VPN connection. Once connected successfully you willl see your VPN connection stats as follows.
- To further confirm that you have succesfully connected to the VPN, you can verify your IP address here. You should see your GigaDrive server’s IP address on this page.
